Winter sports enthusiast can enjoy a variety of snow activities sponsored by Washington State Parks' Winter Recreation Program. These include cross-country and downhill skiing, skijoring, snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing, sledding, and tubing. The core of Washington's winter recreation program is its Sno-Park program. Sno-Parks provide cleared parking areas for winter recreationists in close proximity to groomed and/or backcountry trails. For the service of providing plowed-out parking areas for skiers, users pay an annual fee for a permit. There are two basic types of sno-parks: 1) snowmobile sno-parks; and 2) non-motorized sports sno-parks. Of the more than 120 Sno-Parks available statewide during winter, approximately 40 of the Sno-Parks are designated for non-motorized winter sports only. A few Sno-Parks offer both types of activities.
Winter recreation program specialists are available to assist with questions regarding the state's snowmobile and cross-country Sno-Park programs.
