Located in Front Royal, VA lays a geological surprise. Skyline Caverns is one of the only places on Earth where rare Anthodites are displayed, and is home to the most common speleotherms – underground formations.

The caverns had been undisturbed for 60 million years until their discovery in 1937 by Walter S. Amos. Today, visitors may take a guided tour through about 20 percent of the caverns that is not only impressive but educational as well.

Highlights:

The Shrine: An impressive stalagmite that began forming about 45 million years ago.

Wishing Well and Waterfall: Running water helped created these attractions 37 feet below the earth’s surface. A multi-color light system is in place underground to help showcase features such as these.

Fairyland Lake: A favorite among visitors, you will be surprised to learn how deep this lake it.

Open year-round, the caverns are a great spot for families to explore. They are conveniently located one mile from the Northern Entrance of Skyline Drive.
