Dark Hollow Falls is perhaps the most popular waterfall in Shenandoah National Park, mainly because it is the easiest to get to.
At 1.4 miles round-trip, the hike is easy going on the way down, with a steeper workout on the way up. The trailhead to Dark Hollow Falls is located at mile 50.7 of Skyline Drive, inside the park near Big Meadows. Along the way, visitors can spot white-tailed deer grazing in the bushes, beautiful tall trees for shade, and wildflowers scattered in the forest.
Dark Hollow Falls cascades down some 70 feet over four major sets of cascades. Stopping at each along the way brings a better view than the previous stop. Water rushes down with great speed creating loud bursts and a stunning view.
