Flint Hills Scenic Byway
The 48-mile byway offers panoramic vistas of the tallgrass prairie and an opportunity to learn what early pioneers experienced as they travelled the Santa Fe Trail. Areas of interest along the route feature: Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve; historic sites in Council Grove including the Kaw Mission State Historic Site and Museum, Council Oak, Santa Fe Trail, Old Cowboy Jail, Post Office Oak and Museum; and Cottonwood Falls, site of the Chase County Courthouse (in operation since 1873) and the Roniger Native American Museum.Start and Endpoint: Crosses the Flint Hills of Kansas on SH 177 between Council Grove and Cassoday.

Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway
The 77-mile byway winds around Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, two of the largest wetland ecosystems in the world. The Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area covers 20,000 acres and is considered the largest marsh in the interior of the United States and the most important migration point for shorebirds in North America. Less than 20 miles away, the 22,135-acre Quivira National Wildlife Refuge is a staging area for more than 500,000 birds during their spring migration. Opportunities abound for bird and wildlife watching, hiking, and many other nature activities at both locations.Start and Endpoint: Byway begins 5 miles west of Hoisington, at the west junction of US 281 and SH 4; and end at the junction of Route 636 with with US 281.
