Spanning nearly all of the Pacific Ocean, including Hawaii, California, and Alaska, World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument preserves and interprets key events in the Pacific Theater leading up to the United States entering World War II. It was created on December 5, 2008 thanks to an executive order issued by President George W. Bush under the authority of the Antiquities Act of 1906. It was a special date as the 67th anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor was on December 7, 2008.
There’s lots to do on your visit to the memorial, but a few things not to miss. Check out the museum which focuses on the December 7, 1941, attack on Oahu, and includes personal memorabilia, photographs, and other artifacts of the battle. Also be sure to check out the bookstore for books relating to the attack on Pearl Harbor, as well as the Pacific War effort. You can check out videos, posters, audio tapes, and more. The memorial is also a great place for interpretive programs, guided tours, and other special exhibits.
