The Redwood National and State Parks unit was established in 1994 when the National Park Service and the California Department of Parks and Recreation administratively combined Redwood National Park with the three adjoining redwood state parks (Jedediah Smith, Del Norte Coast, and Prairie Creek Redwoods) for the purpose of cooperative forest management and stabilization of forests and watersheds as a single unit.
