Redwoods National and State Parks are greatly influenced by the Pacific Ocean. Coastal temperatures generally range between 40 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit all year round, while further from the coast summers are hotter and drier, and winters are colder. The redwoods thrive in a temperate ecosystem and require lots of precipitation. They mostly grow a mile or two from the coast, but never more than 50 miles from it.
