American Discovery Trail
Project to develop the nation's first coast-to-coast multi-use hiking trail, incorporating urban, suburban, and natural areas. The 6,356-mile trail has been mapped and is the process of being developed.
Appalachian National Scenic Trail
Runs from Mount Katahdin in Maine to Springer Mountain in Georgia, traversing 14 states.
Blue Ridge Parkway Trails
Includes hiking trails (listed by mile marker) along the National Park Service site that stretches from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
Blue Ridge Parkway Trails

Continental Divide National Scenic Trail
Extends from the Canadian border in Glacier National Park in Montana to Mexico, while providing rugged backcountry travel.
East Coast Greenway
Planned as a 2,500-mile traffic-free path for cyclists, hikers, and other non-motorized users linking the East Coast cities from Maine to Florida.
Florida National Scenic Trail
When completed, trail will extend more than 1,300 miles from the Gulf Island Seashore near Pensacola to the Big Cypress National Preserve near Miami.
Ice Age National Scenic Trail
The trail generally follows the end moraines of the most recent glaciation in Wisconsin. Official site of the National Park Service.
International Appalachian Trail / Sentier International des Appalaches
A 650-mile trail from Mount Katahdin, Maine to Cap Gaspe, Quebec, offering scenic views of old potato farms and spruce-fir forests, the dominant terrain along most of the trail. More than 450 miles of trail have been located, cleared and blazed. Includes the only bilingual trail markers in North America.
Millennium Trails Program
National initiative of the White House, DOT, and Rails-to-Trails Conservancy to promote the creation of trails as part of America's year 2000 legacy.
Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail
Parallels the Natchez Trace Pkwy, which commemorates the original Natchez Trace, an ancient path that began as a series of animal tracks and Native American trails.
National Scenic Byways
Describes the National Scenic Byways Program and provides information and a slide show on national and state scenic byways.
National Trails System Act
Established by Congress in 1968 to provide for recreation, public access, enjoyment, and appreciation of the "open-air, outdoor areas and historic resources of the Nation."
North Country National Scenic Trail
Links New York's Adirondack Mountains with the Missouri River in North Dakota, passing through a variety of scenic and historic landscapes in seven states.
Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail
A 2,638-mile trail that follows the shoulders of the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges, from Canada to Mexico.
Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail
Recognizes and commemorates the mix of history and recreation along the Potomac River.
