Louisiana's Best State Parks

For variety of terrain and recreational options, Louisiana’s State Parks offer many options. Here’s a sample of what you can find in the Bayou State...

Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego is just 30 minutes southwest of downtown New Orleans. The 580-acre park provides a unique environment where swampland meets marsh in close proximity to urban development. Twenty waterfront cabins overlook the bayou and campsites offer natural surroundings away from the fast pace of the Big Easy. A large boat launch, group camp, picnic area, meeting room and wave pool are also available.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is located 18 miles east of St. Martinville, at the edge of Louisiana's largest watery wilderness, the Atchafalaya Basin. The park offers 18 waterfront vacation cabins, 50 improved campsites, a canoe trail with primitive campsites, hiking, boat launch, picnic area, a camp store and fishing opportunities. The 6,000-acre site is situated in an area that was once home to the Chitimacha Indians. From the middle 1700s, the region was settled by a mixture of French and Acadian farmers. Only 40 minutes from Lafayette, it’s a great place to start your tour of Acadiana and you can combine a visit to St. Martinville, where one of our historic sites -- Longfellow-Evangeline SHS – provides a living history experience of the Acadian culture.

Just an hour south of Shreveport, the 900 acres of scenic woodlands feature camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking, 10 vacation cabins, a group camp, swimming pool, meeting room and camp store. And if you’re a golfer, Cypress Bend Golf Course is a short drive south. So bring the clubs, the fishing rods and reels, and come enjoy the park just off La. Highway 3229, about six miles west of Zwolle in Sabine Parish .

Tickfaw State Park opened in May of 1999 and presents nature-based educational opportunity for all ages. Raised boardwalks take you through an undisturbed wetland that changes seasonally and with the rise and fall of the Tickfaw River. The site’s nature center is the best place to begin your day tour or prolonged visit. Canoeing is a popular method of exploring the river and canoes can be rented on site. Fourteen vacation cabins make it easy to spend a night in the wilderness or you can reserve any of 50 campsites and see the site from a different perspective. Only 45 minutes east of Baton Rouge, the park is located at 27225 Patterson Road, southwest of Springfield in Livingston Parish.

Fontainebleau State Park is located southeast of Mandeville on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, just 45 minutes from New Orleans. The park’s 2,809 acres were once part of a sugar plantation built in the early 1800s by Bernard de Marigny de Mandeville. The ruins of a plantation brickyard and sugar mill are still visible amid an alley of live oaks lining the park’s entrance road. The park offers a swimming pool and beach, fishing, picnicking and a nature trail for all visitors. Campsites are available for overnighters.
