Dark-Sky Preserves

A dark-sky preserve is an area, usually surrounding a park or observatory, that is kept free of man-made light, generally to promote astronomy.

Fathom Five National Marine Park

Canada's first national marine park protects 22 islands at the mouth of Georgian Bay and a main ecosystem that extends from the surface water down 200 meters.

Point Pelee National Park

Point Pelee is one of Canada's smallest national parks, but still attracts nearly 400 000 visitors each year. Each spring, birders from around the world converge on Point Pelee to take part in the "Festival of Birds."

Lake Hudson State Recreational Area

Lake Hudson Recreation Area has 2,796 acres of recreational opportunities around Lake Hudson. The park, which lies in southeast Michigan, offers premier muskie fishing and game hunting.

Natural Bridges National Monument

Three natural bridges carved out of sandstone, including the second and third largest in the world, are protected here. Also present are Ancestral Puebloan rock art and ruins.

Cherry Springs State Park

Cherry Springs State Park is nearly as remote and wild today as it was two centuries ago. Its dark skies make it a haven for astronomers.
