Visitors to the park should begin at the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center. Funded through donations coordinated by the Gettysburg Foundation, the new $103 million facility opened its doors in April of 2008. Located adjacent to the battlefield, it showcases an extensive collection of artifacts and archival materials and provides visitors with a distinctive perspective of the Civil War.
