Size: 1138 sq. km.
Location: Saguenay-Saint Lawrence Marine Park is located at the juncture of the Saguenay River and the Saint Lawrence Estuary, approximately 205 km from Québec City.
Description: Park protects the ecosystems of a representative portion of the Saguenay Fjord and the Saint Lawrence Estuary marine environment, an area rich and diverse in marine life. In all, more the 15 marine mammals inhabit the area on a regular basis or use it as a summer feeding ground including the harbor seal, harbor porpoise, beluga whale, minke whale, fin whale, and blue whale. Park also serves as the reproduction, feeding, and staging area for a number species of aquatic birds.
Activities: Fishing, boating, sea kayaking, scuba diving, whale watching, hiking, interpretive and educational programs.
Places to Stay: For information on accommodations, including hotels, inns, and campgrounds, contact the nearby tourism associations. These include: Lower St. Lawrence Tourism Association, Charlevoix Tourism Association, and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Regional Tourism Association.
History: Established in 1990. The first marine conservation park in the Province of Québec is operated jointly by the governments of Québec and Canada.
