Reservations Suspended

Dateline: 12/08/97

Due to a termination of its contract with DESTINET (formerly MISTIX), the national camping reservations system for National Park Service campgrounds has been temporarily suspended. No further advanced reservations will be taken. Campgrounds and tour programs for the park areas that previously accepted advance reservations will now be available on a first come first served basis. All reservations for campgrounds or tour activities made to date will be honored by the National Park Service. Visitors should plan to bring their confirmation numbers with them to the park. To cancel reservations, call (202) 208-4048 or contact the specific park unit directly.

The contract termination affects tour reservations at Frederick Douglass Home National Historic Site (DC) and Mammoth Cave National Park (KY). Campground reservations are affected at 16 national parks, including Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Yosemite National Park. Campgrounds and tours at national parks do not typically fill up at this time of year, and the National Park Service expects to have a new national reservation system fully operational in time for the 1998 summer camping season.
