The
rough-legged hawk (pictured above) is a boreal species that in North America, breeds
north of timberline in Canada and Alaska including most of Newfoundland, the
islands of the Canadian Arctic, as well as the Aleutians Islands. It is
highly migratory and moves from its arctic summer quarters to southern
Canada and the northern and central United States during the winter.
