Size: 404 sq. km.
Location: Terra Nova National Park is located 80 km east of Gander and 240 km west of St. John's. The Trans-Canada Highway runs through the park for approximately 40 km. Newfoundland is accessible by airplane, or ferry service, and the park is accessible by motor vehicle, chartered bus or personal watercraft.
Description:
Park is representative of the easternmost section of the continent-wide belt of boreal forest zone, with diverse ground vegetation that includes more than 500 species of vascular plants, 200 species of moss, and hundreds of species of lichens. Terra Nova's Marine Interpretation Center includes a touch tank, aquariums, exhibits, interpretive programs, science camps, and videos.
Activities: Camping, hiking, swimming, sea kayaking, canoeing, boat tours,
golfing, bicycling, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs.
Places to Stay: Terra Nova offers both front-country and primitive camping. Parks Canada operates the campgrounds in the park. Campground reservations can be made online or by calling 1-877-737-3783. Operating
Hours: Terra Nova National Park is open year-round. Full services are
available from mid-May to early October (Victoria Day weekend to the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend).
History: Established in 1957.
