Size: 536 sq. km.
Location: La Mauricie National Park is 50 km north of the Saint Lawrence River, approximately 200 km from Montreal, 190 km from Quebec City, and 60 km from Trois Rivieres. A good portion of the park is situated in the heart of the Laurentian Mountains.
Description: Park typifies the region of the Lauretians, a range of low mountains bordering the Saint Lawrence River along its entire course from the Great Lakes to Labrador. It includes a section of the Laurentian Trail and more than 150 lakes, including the 16-km-long Wapizagonke Lake. The diverse wildlife includes 49 species of mammals, 180 species of birds, 29 species of fish, and 19 species of reptiles and amphibians.
Activities: Hiking, camping (year-round), swimming, canoeing, fishing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs. Canoe and rowboat rentals are available.Places to Stay: The Wabenaki and Andrew Lodges, both located on the shores of the lac à la Pêche, offer rooms and dormitories. Reservations can be made by calling Info-Nature Mauricie (819-537-4555). The two lodges are not accessible by car, but the 3.5 km trek can be covered by foot, bike, canoe or ski depending on your preference and the season. Park also includes 580+ campsites. Hours:
La Mauricie National Park is open on a year-round basis. The lodges are
also open throughout the year although the schedule varies depending on the season.
The Visitor
Center at La Mauricie is open from mid-May through mid-October. Camping seasons
vary by campground.
