Size: 3,579 acres

Location: Walnut Canyon National Monument is located 10 miles east of downtown Flagstaff, Arizona. From I-40, take Exit 204 to entrance road.

Description: These cliff dwellings were built in shallow caves under ledges of limestone by the Sinagua People about 800 years ago. Though the Sinagua were the canyon's only permanent residents, artifacts found here indicate that they were preceded by Archaic peoples who traveled throughout the Southwest thousands of years ago.

Activities: Visitors can tour the museum and hike down to the cliff dwellings. Three ranger-led hikes are available from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Operating Hours: The park is open year round. The visitor center is open daily except Christmas Day.

History: Proclaimed on November 30, 1915; transferred from Forest Service on August 10, 1933.
