Size: 2,517 acres

Location: Valley Forge National Historical Park is located 18 miles west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, near the Schyulkill Expressway (76 East) and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Routes 276 East and 76 West). 

Description: Site of the Continental Army's winter encampment, 1777-1778, the park contains General Washington's headquarters, original earthworks, a variety of monuments and markers, reconstructed log buildings, and a replica cannon.

Activities: A good place to begin your visit is at the Welcome Center, where you can watch an introductory film on Valley Forge and view exhibits that include Revolutionary War artifacts. The park offers 18 miles of trails, a 10-mile, self-automobile tour, as well as 90-minute guided tours in a 32-seat Mini-Bus (Thursday-Monday) with stops at key landmarks throughout the park.  

Operating Hours
: Park grounds are open on a year-round basis during daylight hours. The Welcome Center is open from 9am to 6pm daily and Washington's Headquarters is open from 9am to 5pm daily; closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.

History: Authorized on July 4, 1976.
