Size: 92,738 acres.
Location: Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway includes 252 miles of the Namekagon and Saint Croix rivers in northwestern Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. MN 95 and WI 35 parallel the lower stretches, and WI 63 parallels the upper stretches.
Description: Established as one of the original eight rivers under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway, which includes the Namekagon, flows through some of the most scenic and least developed country in the Upper Midwest.
Activities: Camping, hiking, boating, kayaking, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing. Designated primitive campsites and camping zones have been established along the Namekagon and Saint Croix rivers, with most accessible only by boat or canoe. Nearby state parks and private campgrounds provide drive-in campsites with more amenities, including trailer sites.History: Authorized on October 2, 1968; placed under National Park Service on September 4, 1969. Lower Saint Croix segment authorized as a national scenic riverway on October 25, 1972.
