Size: 161 acres. 

Location: Nicodemus National Historic Site is located 45 miles northwest of Hays, Kansas, on US 24 between Hill City and Stockton. 

Description: Nicodemus, Kansas is the only remaining western town established by African Americans during the Reconstruction Period following the Civil War, and represents the western expansion and settlement of the Great Plains. It is the site of the oldest reported post office supervised by African Americans in the United States. The site includes five buildings: The First Baptist Church, St. Francis Hotel, Nicodemus School District Number One, African Methodist Episcopal Church, and Township Hall (all privately owned).

Activities: Tours (during the summer season). 

Operating Hours: Although hours vary depending upon staff availability, the park visitor center is generally open from 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday - Thursday and from 8:30am to 6:00pm, Friday and Saturday, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Visitor Center is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.
