Size: 72,189 acres.
Location: The New River Gorge National River includes 53 miles of the New River between the towns of Hinton and Fayetteville in southern West Virginia.
Description: A rugged, whitewater river, flowing northward through deep canyons, the New is among the oldest rivers on the continent. The free-flowing river falls 750 feet in 50 miles from Bluestone Dam to Gauley Bridge, creating one of the finest whitewater rivers in the eastern United States. It is abundant in natural, scenic, historic, and recreational features.

Operating Hours: The park is open year-round. Canyon Rim and Sandstone Visitor Centers are open daily (except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's) from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Thurmond Depot and Grandview operate seasonally from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Thurmond Depot's seasonal hours are 10:00am to 5:00pm. Grandview is open seasonally from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
