Size: 146 acres.
Location: The National Mall is located in the area encompassed by Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues, NW on the north, First Street on the east, Independence and Maryland avenues on the south, and 14th Street on the west.
Description: This landscaped park extending from the Capitol to the Washington Monument was envisioned as a formal park in L'Enfant's Plan for the city of Washington in 1791.
Activities: Tourmobile Sightseeing offers daily narrated shuttle tours to 18 major sites on the National Mall and in Arlington National Cemetery. One ticket allows unlimited free reboarding throughout the day. Boarding locations can be found throughout the National Mall, at the major monuments and memorials, and at the Arlington National Cemetery Visitor Center. Advance arrangements are available through TicketMaster 1-800-551-SEAT (outside DC, Maryland and Virginia). The local number is 202-432-SEAT.Operating Hours: There are park rangers available from 8:00am to 11:30pm every day except Christmas Day.
History: Approved on July 16, 1790, except for 42 acres transferred later from other agencies. Transferred from Office of Public Buildings and Public Parks of the National Capital on August 10, 1933.
