Size: 12 acres. 

Location: Lincoln Home National Historic Site is located in Springfield, Illinois. Visitor center is located at 426 South Seventh St.

Description: Abraham and Mary Lincoln resided in this house for 17 years (1844-1861) before he became President. The house was originally constructed in 1839 as a one-story cottage, but was later expanded by the Lincoln's into a full two-story house. The surrounding four-block historic neighborhood is being restored to capture the atmosphere the Lincolns knew.

Activities: Visitors may enjoy a variety of activities at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. Access to the Lincoln Home itself is only possible with a ticket for a specific tour time; tickets may be obtained free of charge at the Visitor Center Information Desk. School groups, charter tours, or other large groups must reserve Lincoln Home tours in advance by contacting the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-800-545-7300 or at www.visit-springfieldillinois. The park visitor center also offers a museum shop, an orientation film, and exhibits. Exhibits are also located within the four-block historic Lincoln neighborhood. You should plan on 1½ to 2 hours for a comprehensive visit of the national historic site. 

Operating Hours: The Lincoln Home Visitor Center is open from 8:30am to 5pm daily except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

History: Authorized on August 18, 1971.
