Size: 61,947 acres. 

Location: Lake Chelan National Recreation Area is located 50 miles uplake from Chelan, Washington. Accessible year-round by passenger ferry or float-plane; there are no road connections between Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and the outside. There are a number of trails available for hiking to the area in the summer. 

Description: Here the beautiful Stehekin Valley, with a portion of fjordlike Lake Chelan, adjoins the southern unit of North Cascades National Park. Lake Chelan rests in a trough carved by glaciers, and with a depth of nearly 1,500 feet, is one of the nation's deepest lakes.

Activities: Visit the Golden West Visitor Center for an overview of Stehekin Valley activities, including nature trails, hikes, shuttle bus tours, bike rentals and naturalist programs. Art exhibitions are also on display. Be sure to bring cash for valley trips on the shuttle bus. Activities within the park include camping, hiking, horseback riding, mountain climbing, boating, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing, and boat tours.

Established on October 2, 1968.
