Size: 2,884 acres.

Location: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is located in Kennesaw, Georgia, just west of Marietta. Accessible via I-75 and the Barrett Parkway.

Description: Eleven miles of Union and Confederate earthworks are preserved within the park, marking the site of the battles of Kolb's Farm (June 22, 1864) and Kennesaw Mountain (June 27, 1864) during the Atlanta Campaign. General William T. Sherman's southward advance was temporarily halted here by General Joseph T. Johnston and the stalwart defense of his Confederates.

Activities: A good starting point is to view the 18-minute movie and tour the museum. You can drive your car during the week or on weekends take the park shuttle bus to the mountain top; drive to Cheatham Hill (the main battlefield) and then onto Kolb Farm; picnic in designated areas; and hike some of the 17+ miles of interpretive trails.

History: Authorized as a national battlefield site on February 8, 1917; changed to a national battlefield park on June 26, 1935.
