Size: 15,060 acres.
Location: Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore stretches along southern Lake Michigan in northwestern Indiana. Accessible via I-94, the Indiana Toll Road, I-80/90, US 20, IN 12 and various state roads. The South Shore Railroad from Chicago or South Bend includes several stops within the park area.
Description: Dunes rise 180 feet above Lake Michigan's southern shore with beaches, bogs, marshes, swamps, and prairie remnants as other natural features. Historic sites include an 1822 homestead and 1900s family farm. The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education and the Indiana Dunes Environmental Learning Center provide day-use and residential programs.

Operating Hours: The Dorothy Buell Memorial Visitor Center is open from 8:30am - 6:00pm daily, Memorial Day through Labor Day; and 8:30am - 4:30pm daily, Labor Day through Memorial Day. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
The West Beach Bath House is open from 9:00am to dusk during the summer months. The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is open for scheduled groups.
History: Authorized on November 5, 1966.
