Activities: Plan to spend at least four hours at the park, though an entire day is more desirable. The new Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center opened in April of 2008. Located adjacent to the battlefield, this $103 million facility showcases an extensive collection of artifacts and archival materials and provides visitors with a distinctive perspective of the Civil War. If you visit Gettysburg, of course you should plan on touring the battlefield park on your own with a self guiding tour or with a Licensed Battlefield Guide. During the summer months, there are free ranger led programs and special walks.

Operating Hours: Park grounds and roads open daily, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Visitor Center open daily, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Summer hours- 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.) Buildings are closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, & New Years Day. The Soldiers' National Cemetery is open at dawn and closes at sunset.
