Size: 5,623 acres

Location: Fort Pulaski National Monument is located 15 miles east of Savannah, Georgia. Follow US 80 east toward Tybee Island. 

Description: Bombardment of this early 19th-century fort by rifled cannon in 1862 first demonstrated the ineffectiveness of old-style masonry fortifications.

Activities: Daily interpretive programs are available as well special interpretive programs on musket and cannon demonstrations throughout the year. Self-guided fort tours, and hiking, fishing, biking and birding are recommended activities.


Operating Hours
: Park hours are 9:00 am - 5:00 pm daily; extended summer hours are 9:00 am to 7:00 pm daily. The park is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Proclaimed on October 15, 1924; transferred from War Department on August 10, 1933.
