Size: 68,714 acres

Location: The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is situated on the Pennsylvania/New Jersey border, 90 miles from Philadelphia and 64 miles from Newark.

Description: This scenic area preserves relatively unspoiled land on both the New Jersey and Pennsylvania sides of the Middle Delaware River. The river segment flows through the famous gap in the Appalachian Mountains. The park sponsors a craft village and several environmental education centers.

Activities: Camping, hiking, bicycling, mountain climbing, swimming, canoeing, tubing, fishing, hunting, auto touring, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, guided tour. More than 25 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are within Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This is the only backpacking area in the park.

Operating Hours: Park grounds, trails, roadways, and the Delaware River are open 24 hours a day, year-round, unless closed due to heavy snowfall, ice, or other hazardous conditions. Day use areas and river accesses are open dawn to dusk daily.
