Size: 4,750 acres

Location: Coronado National Memorial is located in southeastern Arizona along the border of the United States and Mexico, at the southern end of the Huachuca Mountains. From Phoenix or Tucson, take I-10 east and exit south on Hwy. 90 to Sierra Vista, then south on Hwy. 92 to Coronado Memorial Hwy.

Description: Our Hispanic heritage and the first European exploration of the Southwest by Francisco Vasquez de Coronado (1540-1542) are commemorated here, near the point where Coronado's expedition entered what is now the United States. The memorial also preserves a wide array of plant and animal life native to the Southwest.

Activities: Activities at the park include visiting the museum; hiking, bird watching, picnicking and spelunking. Allow two hours to visit museum and scenic overlook at Montezuma Pass, and an additional half-hour to hike to Coronado Peak. Allow two hours for a visit to Coronado Cave and bring two flashlights per person. History and nature programs and tours of Coronado Cave are available for groups when scheduled in advance. Regularly scheduled programs are given for the general public during the busy seasons.

Daily, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

History:
Authorized as International Memorial on August 18, 1941; redesignated on July 9, 1952; established on November 5, 1952.
