Size: 9,167 acres

Location: The national recreation area comprises a series of parklands along a 48-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River, north of Atlanta. Shuttle bus service is available among the sites. 

Description: The 430-mile Chattahoochee River flows southwesterly from the north Georgia mountains to its Flint River confluence at Lake Seminole. The portion of the river that comprises the national recreation area lies within four counties. In addition to providing recreational opportunities, it contains a wide variety of natural habitats, flora and fauna, 19th-century historic sites, and Native American archeological sites.

Activities: Nine park units offer 50 miles of hiking trails, numerous picnic areas, a stocked trout stream with 23 species of game fish, and canoe and raft rental (beginning weekends in May, and daily, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend). Raft rentals, guided fishing trips, catering, and other commercial services are available within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
