How To Obtain a National Park Entrance Pass

From Darren Smith, for About.com

Here's how to obtain a Golden Eagle Passport, which will admit you to national parks, monuments, historic sites, recreation areas, and national wildlife refuges that charge an entrance fee.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Less than five minutes

Here's How:

  1. Purchase a $65 money order or make out a check payable to: National Park Service.
  2. Send check or money order to:  National Park Service 1100 Ohio Drive, SW, Room 138 Washington, DC 20242 Attention: Golden Eagle Passport
  3. Allow approximately 3-4 weeks for delivery
  4. Or go to any National Park Service area that charges an entrance fee and purchase the Passport in person.

Tips:

  1. The Golden Eagle Passport admits the passholder and accompanying passengers in a private vehicle. Where entry is not by private vehicle, it admits the pass holder, spouse, children, and parents. The passport is non-transferable.
  2. The Golden Eagle Passport does not cover or reduce use fees, such as fees for camping, swimming, parking, boat launching, or cave tours. It is valid for entrance fees only.
  3. If you are purchasing the Golden Eagle Passport by mail, do not order it too far in advance of using it, since the one year clock starts ticking at the time you purchase your pass, not at the time when you first use it.
