| 1960 Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site is established as a unit of the National Park Service near La Junta, CO. For much of its 16-year history (1833-1849), the fort was the only major permanent white settlement on the Santa Fe Trail between Missouri and the Mexican settlements. |
