Washington, D.C. is incorporated as a city. Located in the heart of the city is the National Mall, part of the area of open spaces and parklands envisioned by Pierre L'Enfant's plan. Stretching out from the Capitol Building to the Washington Monument, the National Mall includes a number of National Park Service units including the Jefferson Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, and the Washington Monument.
