APRIL 25

1846
Mexican troops attack a squadron of US dragoons near Carricitos, leading to the first major engagements between US and Mexican armies. Less than three weeks later, Congress would officially declare war on Mexico. The Palo Alto National Historic Site in Brownsville, Texas, is the only unit of the
National Park Service with a primary focus on the US-Mexican War. It interprets the entire conflict, including the details of its origins and the broad range of consequences.
