APRIL 19

1775
On this day British soldiers and American militia, "minute men" meet in a series of unplanned skirmishes along a 22 mile stretch of road that ran from Boston to Concord, marking the beginning of the American Revolution. Minuteman National Historical Park, located in Concord, Lexington, and Lincoln, MA, preserves many of the significant historic sites, structures, properties and landscapes associated with these opening battles of the American Revolution.

1995
An explosion rocks the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, including 19 children, and injuring hundreds more in the nation's deadliest act of terrorism to date. The Oklahoma City National Memorial would be established in 1997 to honor the victims, survivors, rescuers, and others associated with this tragedy.
