National Scenic Roads & Highways - Illinois

Great River Road - Illinois
557-mile route along the Mississippi River flood plain includes 29 state recreation and/or conservation areas.

Lincoln Highway
The 179-mile route crosses the width of Northern Illinois, from Lynwood to Fulton. Located near the center of the 3,389-mile transcontinental route, it was the site of the first "seedling mile" of paved roadway constructed to demonstrate the superiority of pavement over dirt roads. 

Meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic Route
Within a 25-mile area, the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois Rivers meet to form a 35,000-acre floodplain. This confluence is the backdrop for this 57-mile route, which stretches from Alton to Kampsville. 

The National Road - Illinois
Historic road crosses the state of Illinois from near the Wabash River to the Mississippi River, traversing seven counties. 

Ohio River Scenic Route - Illinois
188-mile route runs from the Indiana border to its terminus at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
