Things to Do:
Zion National Park offers opportunities for a variety of activities depending on your personal interests. To make the most of your visit, stop at one of the two visitor centers first. The Zion Canyon Visitor Center is located one mile from the south entrance to the park, off Highway 9 near Springdale. The Kolob Canyons Visitor Center is located at the northwestern corner of the park, off I-15 exit 40. Both visitor centers include exhibits that explain the natural and cultural history of the area. Rangers are also available to answer questions and issue backcountry permits.
Most visitors to Zion walk on at least one trail in the park. The trails range from short, 30 minute walks like Weeping Rock or Timber Creek Overlook, to longer, more strenuous hikes like the West Rim or Kolob Arch trails.
Ranger-led
programs including guided nature walks, evening programs, and talks are
offered from late March to November. Activity schedules are posted in the
visitor centers and throughout the park. During summer, kids from ages 6-12 can join
in the Junior Ranger Program at the Zion Nature Center.
Guided horseback
rides are available from late March to early November. Reservations and
information are available at the lodge or by calling Bryce-Zion Trail Rides at
435-772-3810.
Visitors wishing to travel the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive from April through
October must now use the park shuttle
bus system. The shuttles follow two loops: one includes nine stops in Zion
Canyon; the other has six stops in the town of Springdale. The loops are
connected by a footbridge between the Zion Canyon Theater and the Zion Canyon
Visitor Center. Visitors can park in Springdale and take the shuttle to the park
or park at the visitor center. The shuttle departs frequently from each stop
throughout the day, and users can get on and off as often as they wish. The
round trip from the visitor center lasts a minimum of 90 minutes. There is a
park entrance fee, but the shuttle is free.
