Welcome to the Zion National Park Travel Planner. Here you'll find everything you need to plan your Zion vacation, including directions, maps, photos, lodging, camping, things to do, weather, and more. The name "Zion," was given to the canyon by Mormon pioneers as a biblical reference, but they interpreted it to mean a "place of refuge" or "sanctuary."
Zion is part of the Southwest's "Grand Circle" of national parks, monuments, historical areas, and recreation areas -- one of the world's great concentrations of outstanding natural and cultural features. Protected within the park's 146,592 acres are sheer, vividly-colored cliffs and deep canyons. Ranging in elevation from 3,666 feet to 8,726 feet, the park features the richest diversity of plants in Utah--almost 800 native species -- as well as one of the last mostly free-flowing river systems on the Colorado Plateau. It is also includes the world's largest arch - Kolob Arch - with a span that measures 310 feet. I hope you'll enjoy a visit to the park in the near future.
