Petrified Forest National Park

Camping:

No maintained campgrounds are available in the park, but nearby communities offer full service accommodations. See Travel & Tourism Offices section for further information. Overnight backpacking is permitted in the Petrified Forest Wilderness. A free permit is required and can be obtained at the Painted Desert Visitor Center or Rainbow Forest Museum. Hikers must park their cars and enter the wilderness at Kachina Point. A one mile access trail leads into the wilderness area. Campers must hike to a designated zone north of Lithodendron Wash before setting up camp.
