Olympic National Park

History:

President Grover Cleveland created the Olympic Forest Reserve in 1897 and President Theodore Roosevelt designated the area Mount Olympus National Monument in 1909. Following the recommendation of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Congress signed a bill designating 898,000 acres as Olympic National Park in 1938. In 1940 Roosevelt added 300 more square miles and in 1953 President Harry Truman added 75 miles of coastal wilderness to bring the park up to its present size (922,651 acres).
