Camping:

There are three campgrounds in the park complex with vehicle access on the North Cascades Highway:

The Colonial Creek Campground, which is located in old growth forest on the shore of Diablo Lake, includes 162 sites. Some sites are fully accessible and facilities include a boat ramp and potable water. Campground is open from mid-May through mid-October and nightly amphitheater programs are held during the summer months.

The Goodell Creek Campground, which is open on a year-round basis, is located in old growth forest on the banks of the Skagit River. Facilities include 21 sites with raft/kayak launch and covered picnic shelter nearby. Potable water is available from spring through fall.

The Newhalem Creek Campground, which is open from mid-May through mid-October, is located just off the North Cascades Highway near milepost 120 and across the Skagit River. A visitor center and complex of short interpretive trails are located nearby. Facilities include a group camp (reservations required), potable water, and a nearby picnic area. Ranger-led evening programs are held in the campground amphitheaters on weekends during the summer.

Campgrounds in Ross Lake National Recreation Area and in nearby portions of the Okanogan and the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie national forests are also available from mid-June through mid-September.

There are a number of campgrounds in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, including Purple Point (the only campground near Stehekin Landing) and Harlequin in the Lower Valley, Bullion, High Bridge, and Tumwater in the High Bridge Area, Dolly Varden, Shady, and Bridge Creek in the Mid-Valley, Park Creek, Flat Creek, and Cottonwood in the Upper Valley, and Weaver Point, Manly Wham, and Flick Creek lakeside.

Free backcountry permits are needed for overnight stays at all North Cascades National Park Service Complex camps. Permits available at Ranger Stations on a first-come, first-served basis up to a day in advance. Group campsites (reservations required) are at Goodell Creek in Ross Lake National Recreation Area, at Harlequin in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, and at Bridge Creek in North Cascades National Park. Backcountry permits are required for all overnight backcountry and boat-in camp sites.
