Glacier National Park

Camping:

Glacier National Park has 13 campgrounds, which provide just over 1,000 campsites. Most of the campgrounds are operated on a "first come, first serve" basis. Fish Creek and Saint Mary campgrounds may be reserved up to five months in advance by calling 1-800-365-2267 or using the online reservation system.

Several styles of campground are available. There are eight campgrounds accessible by paved road: Apgar, Avalanche Creek, Fish Creek, Many Glacier, Rising Sun, Saint Mary, Two Medicine, and Sprague Creek. Trailer space is provided at all but Sprague Creek, which is closed to towed vehicles. Fireplaces, tables, washrooms, and cold running water are offered at all of these campgrounds, but utility connections are not provided.

Campgrounds that are accessible via graveled road include Cut Bank, Kintla Lake, Bowman Lake, Quartz Creek, and Logging Creek. These sites offer fireplaces, tables, and pit toilets.

There is a camping limit of 7 days during July and August, with a maximum of 14 days in a calendar year.

Backcountry Camping

During the summer camping season (May 1 - November 19), backcountry use permits must be picked up in person no sooner than 24 hours in advance of your departure at the designated permit station. During the winter season (November 20 - April 30), backcountry use permits may be requested and approved in person or by telephone, up to seven days in advance. Approved permits must be picked up in person. For further information, see the Glacier National Park Backcountry Camping Guide.
