The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail is approximately 3,700 miles long, beginning near Wood River, Illinois, and passing through portions of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. This site celebrates the heroic expedition of the Corps of Discovery, led by Captain Meriwether Lewis and Captain William Clark. Thirty three people traveled with them into unknown territory, starting in 1804, reaching the Pacific Ocean in 1805 and returning in 1806.
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail runs 2,167 miles, traversing 14 states from Maine to Georgia. The Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail includes three segments totaling 276.5 miles, and the Iditarod National Historic Trail in Alaska is approximately 2,400 miles (including side and connecting trails).
