Kwanzaa is a week long African American holiday observed from December 26 through January 1 and focuses on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self improvement. And this year, the African Burial Ground National Monument will hold a special celebration.

On December 29, the monument will observe the principles of Kwanzaa and share the history of the burial ground. The visitor center and memorial will be open all day with a series of family-oriented programming including arts and crafts, African music, and a dance performance.

All event and activities are free and open to the public, but reservations are required. To make a reservation call 212-637-2019.
