© Velo Steve via FlickrDocumentary filmmaker Ken Burns is at it again. He recently sent an assist to Congressman Sam Farr in pitching national park status for the Pinnacles National Monument.
Farr, D-Carmel, put in a bill - H.R. 3444 - that would transform the monument into a national park. The bill would rename the Pinnacles Wilderness as the Hain Wilderness would allow the Interior Department to enlarge the park.
Yesterday, Farr read from Burns' letter during a hearing before the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands. Burns, who recently released the documentary series The National Parks: America's Best Idea, called the Pinnacles "a unique portion of our land."
Unfortunately, the Pinnacles bill likely will be idle until next year as it needs to be reviewed and voted upon.
