Last week, the world was shocked to hear a 19-year old folk singer from Toronto, was killed by two coyotes while hiking in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. And now others are in shock for her mothers reaction.

Taylor Josephine Stephanie Luciow, who performed under the name Taylor Mitchell, died on October 27 causing the park to search for the coyotes. Last week, an official for Parks Canada said one coyote had been shot and the search remained for the second.  But Taylor's mother is asking for any coyotes involved int he attack be spared.

In a statement to news organizations she wrote, "We take a calculated risk when spending time in nature's fold -- it's the wildlife's terrain. When the decision had been made to kill the pack of coyotes, I clearly heard Taylor's voice say, 'Please don't, this is their space.' She wouldn't have wanted their demise, especially as a result of her own."

The trail where the attack occurred was still closed as of Sunday afternoon, and a team from Parks Canada plans on continuing to study coyotes in the area.
